Facebook has rolled out a new feature and “Donate Now” button as an effort to make it easier for non-profits to receive contributions. In Facebook’s post, they stated, “In times of disaster or crisis, people turn to Facebook to check on loved ones, get updates, and to learn how they can help. In November 2013, in the wake of Typhoon Haiyan, we partnered with the International Federation of Red Cross to let people donate directly to the Red Cross’s relief efforts in the Philippines. After seeing the generosity of people around the world toward this effort, we’ve been inspired to help everyone donate, at any time, to the organizations they care about most.”

The “Donate Now” button will appear next to Posts in the News Feed and at the top of participating non-profits’ Facebook Pages. Once a person clicks the “Donate Now” button, they can choose the desired amount, enter payment information and the donation will be processed immediately. People will also have the ability to share the non-profit’s post with friends. “We hope this will help increase donations as people encourage their friends to donate to the causes that are important to them,” Facebook stated.

Facebook partnered with 19+ non-profits including Water.orgOxfam AmericaDonors ChooseThe Nature ConservancyGirls Inc.Kiva and more while developing the feature, which will soon be available to many more organizations. Any non-profit interested in participating should fill out the Donate Interest Form in the Facebook Help Center.
